ALEXANDER CITY - Mr. Otis Armour Jr. was born to the late Otis Armour Sr. and Annie Vester Spivey-Armour on October 26, 1934, in Goodwater, AL.

He passed away Saturday, July 28th, 2012 in Alexander City.

Mr. Otis Armour Jr. was a pillar in the Alexander City Business Community establishing the Armour's Memorial Funeral Home in 1963.

Before moving to Alexander City, in 1957 he established funeral homes in Goodwater and Tallassee, AL. Under Mr. Armour's leadership the Armour's chain expanded to Sylacauga, AL in 1974, where he purchased the former Madden Funeral and built and opened a new facility in 1975.

In 1976 he established a funeral home in Lineville, which operated well into the 1990's. Mr. Armour was known in the community for his compassion, professionalism, and dedication to excellence in funeral service.

Mr. Armour was a 1954 graduate of the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science in Louisville, Ky. He was a long time member of the Alexander City Chamber of Commerce: The Alabama Funeral Director's And Mortician's Association, The NAACP, and the National Funeral Directors Morticians Association.

He was certified with the National Board of Funeral Service and the Alabama Board of Funeral Services. He was the first black licensed Funeral Director in Tallapoosa and Coosa Counties.

Mr. Armour is survived by wife, Hattye M. Armour; son, Darrell Armour; daughters, Eulanda (Kenneth) Thompson, Sharitta (Kofee) Anderson; grandchildren, Jasmine and Breana Thompson, Aron and Amari Armour, Jacob Armour, Asia Ledyard and Mrs. Nikki Rowell; brothers, Demetrius, Willie and Emmitt Armour; sisters, Chris Armour and Linda (Carlton) Armour-Scott.

Services will be held at Great Bethel Baptist Church, 692 Jefferson St., Alexander City, AL August 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. and burial will follow at Armour's Memorial Gardens
